Romania’s tennis ace Simona Halep to pay half of her Wimbledon cash prize in taxes

07 July 2014

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep not only achieved a performance at Wimbledon this year, where she reached the semifinals, but also received a large cash prize.

However, according to calculations made by Romanian publication Ziare.com, Halep will remain with about half of the GBP 440,000 announced by the organizers, after paying the taxes in the UK. Thus, the Romanian tennis player will remain with GBP 242,000.

Simona Halep, the current number three in the WTA ranking, qualified to the semifinals of the Wimbledon Championship 2014. It was for the first time in her career that she made it so far up in the London tournament. However, Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard beat Halep in the semifinals, with 7-6, 6-2.
