Romania’s Tax Authority ANAF will carry out controls at several local retailers in the next three weeks. The list includes hypermarket chains Rewe and Auchan and do-it-yourself retailers Praktiker, Baumax, and Leroy Merlin, reports local Hotnews.ro.

The tax inspectors are currently checking other nine shopping malls and hypermarket chains. ANAF has been criticized for only inspecting small companies or entrepreneurs, ignoring the large ones.

The ANAF inspectors are now checking if the companies’ balance sheets are up to date and if the companies have paid all the taxes owed to the state. The Tax Authority has notified the shopping centers that it would be checking their documents for the past five years.
