Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, the current number 3 in the WTA ranking, qualified in the quarter finals of the Wimbledon Championships. She beat Kazakh Zarina Diyas in the fourth round in two sets ended 6-3, 6-0, on Tuesday, July 1.

This is the best performance for Halep in the Wimbledon tournament and confirms the good shape she has been this year. At the beginning of June, Halep played the final in the French Open at Roland Garros, where she was defeated by Russian Maria Sharapova.

She might face Sharapova again at Wimbledon, but this time in the semifinals, if the two players make it that far. In the quarter finals, Halep will play against the winner of the game between Germany’s Sabine Lisiki and Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova.

The tournament’s main favorites, American Serena Williams and Chinese Na Li, were eliminated in the third round.
