Romania’s capital, among least visited cities in the world

Bucharest ranks towards the bottom of the league in international visitors’ choices, according to the recent MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index.

According to the study, the number of foreign visitors to visit the Romanian capital in 2014 is estimated at 928,028, with total expenditures amounting to USD 391 million.

Romania ranks 90th out of 132 cities, while London tops the list as the destination of choice for international travelers for the third time in four years, according to the study. The top five is completed by Bangkok, Paris, Singapore and Dubai.

London is projected to receive 18.7 million international visitors in 2014, Bangkok - 16.42 million, Paris - 15.57 million, Singapore – 12.47 million and Dubai - 11.95 million.

“The index points to a continued strong demand and interest in air travel, both for business and personal travel,” said Ann Cairns, president of International Markets, MasterCard.

Now in its fourth year, the index provides a ranking of the 132 most travelled cities from around the world.
