Romanians who work abroad sent a total of EUR 4.2 billion back home in 2013, most of the money, namely EUR 925 million being sent by those working in Italy, according to data presented by Valentin Lazea, chief economist of the National Bank of Romania, cited by local Agerpres.

Romanians working in Germany sent EUR 595 million to Romania, this being the second-largest amount, followed by those in the US, who sent home a total of EUR 460 million. Spain ranks fourth with EUR 393 million.

In 2012, Romanians in Spain transferred EUR 504 million back home, those working in the US transferred EUR 593 million, while Romanians working in Germany sent EUR 491 million back home.
