The Romanians who have paid the special tax for cars, the pollution tax for motor vehicles, or the tax for motor vehicles emissions can request its restitution at the Tax Agency ANAF. They don’t need to open proceedings in court anymore, according to an ordinance adopted on August 26 by the Government.

Those who have ongoing trials can also request the restitution of the tax, reports local Mediafax. The Environment Minister will determine the payment procedure.

The state has collected some EUR 787 million from the pollution tax and from the tax on emissions, both applied to cars. The Government first introduced the pollution tax at the end of 2008, but many car owners have filed court actions to recover the tax.
