More than 84 percent of Romanians have a good feeling about Germany, but only 37 percent favor Russia, according to a survey by Romanian institute INSCOP Research. More than 1,000 Romanians were questioned in this research, which was conducted at the beginning of July 2014.

Germany leads in the sympathy ranking, with Great Britain coming second (83.5 percent positive feelings), Spain third (83.2 percent), and Italy, fourth (81 percent). The four countries are also among the favorite targets for Romanian migrants searching for jobs abroad. The US is just seventh in the ranking, after the Netherlands and France. About 77.5 percent of Romanians have good feelings towards the US, while 15.6 percent have negative feelings.

Russia stands at the bottom of the ranking, with just 37 percent positive feelings and 51 percent negative feelings. Hungary is also negatively perceived by Romanians, with almost half of Romanians having negative opinions about the Western neighbor and just 40 percent declaring they like Hungary.

Ukraine, which is Romania’s Northern neighbor, and Bulgaria, which lays to the South, are also among the least favorite countries for Romanians, the research shows.
