Romanian to lead IMF’s mission team in Greece

22 July 2015

A Romanian economist, Delia Velculescu, will lead the International Monetary Fund – IMF’s mission team in Greece, according to AFP.

She will replace Rishi Goyal, who has been leading IMF’s mission in Greece for over two years, including during the harsh negotiations in recent months, reports local Hotnews.ro.

The change was announced one day after Greece paid back EUR 2 billion worth of arrears to the IMF, which will allow it to get new loans from the financial institution. According to Greek newspaper Kathimerini, Rishi Goyal was replaced because of his rigid position during the recent negotiations with Greece.

Delia Velculescu previously served as IMF mission team chief in Slovenia and Cyprus. She also worked with the Greece team on several occasions.
