The number of tourists that have checked in Romanian hotels and guest houses increased by 25% in July this year compared to the same month of 2014, to over 1.28 million, as more Romanians went on holiday in the country.

The number of foreign tourists also went up by about 24% in July, to 258,000. More than 192,000 tourists came from other European countries, up by 18% year-on-year, while 39,000 came from Asia, 60% more than in July 2014, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute – INS.

Some 70% of all foreign tourists who visited Romania in July checked in Bucharest and other big cities while 10% went to mountain resorts. Only 3% went to Romanian seaside resorts.

In the first seven months of the year, the total number of foreign tourists who checked in local hotels went up by 17.8%, to 1.23 million. The total number of Romanian and foreign tourists went up by 16.9% in the same period, to over 5.3 million.
