Romania has 46 of the top 500 largest companies in the region

Romania has 46 companies in this year’s top 500 largest companies in Central and Eastern Europe carried out by consultancy Deloitte, four more companies compared to 2014. Their cumulated turnover amounts to EUR 46 billion.

Only three of these firms are owned by Romanian entrepreneurs, namely the DIY retailer Dedeman (272), the telecom operator RCS&RDS (429) and the energy trader Tinmar (400).

The largest Romanian company OMV Petrom ranks 19th, similar to last year, whereas car producer Automobile Dacia ranks 26th, the same as in 2014. Rompetrol Rafinare, the second largest oil company in Romania, has climbed from 48th to the 35th position. German retailer Kaufland local subsidiary gained 20 places reaching 81th.

Romania ranks 4th for the number of companies included in the ranking, up one place, after Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary, but before Ukraine.

The total revenues of the Romanian companies included in the top 500 rose by almost 7% to EUR 46 billion compared to last year. The cumulated revenues of all the companies included in the top went down by 1.8% compared to last year, reaching EUR 682 billion.

Poland has 170 companies in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic with 79 companies and Hungary with 66 companies. The Polish company PKN Orlen ranks first, followed by Hungarian firm MOL and Czech company Skoda Auto.
