Romania to organize its first WTA tournament in July, Simona Halep to play on home court
The Romanian Tennis Federation (FRT) organizes its first WTA tournament in Bucharest, BRD Bucharest Open, which is to start July 5, 2014.
The tournament will be hosted by BNR Arena and will gather some of the most important 64 women tennis players in the world, with Romanian number 4 WTA Simona Halep holding the headline.
“We are glad to bring to Bucharest the best in women’s tennis. It’s for the first time that the federation organizes a WTA tournament in Romania and we are proud that the players list includes important names in Romanian tennis, such as Simona Halep, Irina Begu, Sorana Carstea and Alexandra Cadantu,” George Cosac, FRT president said.
The tournament’s offers EUR 250,000 in prizes and the winner will get 280 WTA points.
Bucharest already hosts an ATP men’s tennis tournament, the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy.
