Romania, Bulgaria block Russian fighters from reaching Serbia

06 April 2017

Romania and Bulgaria have prohibited several MiG 29 aircraft Russia has offered to Serbia to fly over their air space, said sources close to the situation, quoted by Serbia Info.

Under these conditions, the aircraft will be dismantled and delivered by cargo planes, reports local News.ro.

Military analyst Miroslav Lazanski said that the planes would have already reached Serbia, if Romania and Bulgaria had given the permission for overflight.

"It is not because of their will, but because of NATO. (...) The logical route for them is over Romania and Bulgaria, because if they fly over Hungary, they should also fly over Ukraine, which does not allow it," said the analyst.

Military analyst Vlade Radulovici said that it’s not the first time when such a thing happens. “We had a similar situation with the MI17 helicopters that we had bought and came dismantled,” he added.
