Portuguese group Coindu to hire 1,200 for new factory in Romania

Portuguese company Coindu, which produces textiles for the auto industry, will start a hiring campaign for its new factory in Drobeta Turnu Severin, according to local authorities. The factory will create more than 1,200 jobs with a EUR 10 million investment. This will add to the 1,000 employees Coindu already has in Romania.

Coindu Romania SRL, which also owns a factory in Curtici, Arad county, will hire some 450 people this year for the new factory and promises to add another 800 jobs in 2015, according to Drobeta Turnu Severin’s deputy mayor, Marius Screciu, quoted by Agerpres newswire.

The Portuguese company will build the factory on a 4.5-hectare land it bought in Drobeta Turnu Severin. The first phase of the project requires a EUR 10 million investment. The municipality agreed to provide utilities for the new industrial platform.

Coindu produces leather, fabric and PVC upholstery for car interiors for clients such as BMW, Volkswagen, Audi and Mercedes. The Coindu factory in Curtici last year generated a turnover of EUR 52.8 million and a net profit of EUR 2.1 million. It has more than 1,000 employees.

Drobeta Turnu Severin is the largest city in Mehedinti county, one of the poorest in Romania. Recently, Japanese group Sumitomo also announced it will create 2,000 jobs in the city with new wiring systems factory.
