Romania had 5.1 million pensioners end of April, and only 4.4 million employed people, which brings the ration to 1.1 pensioner per employed person, according to Labour Ministry statistics, quoted by Agerpres.

Most of the pensioners – 90% are state social security pensioners, while only 10% are people who retired from agriculture. In May, the number of pensioners in the first category was down 1,900 people compared to April. Most of the pensioners 3.3 million – retired at the requested legal age, while the rest, retired early.

The average pension was of RON 845 – or some EUR 187. For all categories, women have pensioners lower than men. Among agriculture pensioners, the average pension is of RON 342 – or some EUR 76.
