A nine-day poker festival will take place in Bucharest in December this year. The event, which is called Winmasters Poker Open, will have prizes of about EUR 0.5 million.

People can quality for the tournament, by playing online tournaments on the gambling website WinMasters.ro.

After Romania has legalized the online gambling this year, several online gambling operators have purchased licenses. The Romanian state expects to collect up to EUR 100 million this year from the online gambling operators. The state has begun to collect taxes from this type of activity for the first time, following changes in legislation.

As of July this year, the online gambling operators that have been operating illegally in Romania have had about three months to pay the taxes they owed the state for the last five years, according to the new law on online gambling.
