New pollution tax for Romanians with apartment heating units

26 August 2014

Romanians who have apartment heating units are to pay a pollution tax from 2016, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced while in Tulcea, southeastern Romania.

According to Ponta, this tax is imposed by the European Union, but representatives of owners associations say that, in some EU countries, subsidies are granted for the installation of efficient apartment heating units and only the old ones are taxed, reports local Capital.

This tax has been a subject for discussions for years and the deadline for delaying it is 2015.

Many Romanians chose to disconnect from the central heating system and install apartment heating units to cut costs during winter.
