Geomagnetic scans uncovered a 3,000-year old tribal center near Satu Mare, in northwestern Romania. Local archeologists and experts of the Cologne University of Germany continue the searches on this vast archeological project, according to Agerpres.

“Geomagnetic scanning revealed a tribal center that spans over 56 hectares, in an area naturally fortified by two creeks flowing into the Ierului Valley. The whole area was fortified, which proves impressive possibilities of the community that lived here,” reads a release of the Satu Mare County Museum.

The researchers discovered that hundreds of buildings on the site were laid out in rows, proving that the dwellings were built following a plan. “This complex development defined as proto-urban was known only in the famous tribal center in Biskupin, Poland,” according to the release.
