Local retailer makes a daring move: will have the same prices in all of its stores in Romania

20 August 2015

Discount supermarket chain Lidl, one of the biggest retailers in Romania, will have the same prices in all of its local stores. Moreover, Lidl will publish the prices for all its products in a special section on its website, the company announced on Thursday, August 20.

“In all of Lidl’s network in Romania, a product has the same price, regardless of the location of the store where it is purchased,” Lidl announced.

The retailer has created a special section on its website where all the product prices in its permanent range will be displayed. The list will be updated daily at 9:00 AM, according to the company.

Lidl thus becomes the first large local retailer that officially commits to a single pricing policy and publishes the prices of all its products online.

Hypermarket and supermarket chains usually have different pricing policies in their stores depending on the location. Prices may vary depending on the transport costs, purchasing power, inventory management strategies, and other factors.

Lidl is part of German group Schwarz, controlled by German businessman Dieter Schwarz. The group also includes Kaufland, which is the leader of the retail sector in Romania.
