Launch of Romania's Start-up Nation program, delayed for June

05 May 2017

The Government's deadline for launching the Start-up Nation Romania program was postponed to June.

The first deadline for launching the program was May 1-2. It was then postponed to mid-May, and the latest deadline for starting the program is June, said Florin Jianu, former minister for business, trade and entrepreneurship in the Sorin Grindeanu cabinet.

“I heard yesterday at a conference in Slatina that it will start in June,” said Jianu.

A total of 10,000 small entrepreneurs can receive this year grants of up to RON 200,000 (about EUR 44,000) from the state to launch new businesses via the Start-up Nation - Romania program. The financing entirely covers the investment in the project.

However, the startup needs to create minimum two jobs, with indeterminate labor contracts. There is the possibility that one or both contracts belong to the start-up founders. The projects that create more jobs receive extra points.

The Start-up Nation Romania program was launched into public debate more than two months ago. However, there are still many aspects to be clarified about the project.
