House rental demand far exceeds supply in Romania

28 August 2015

The demand for house rental far exceeds the existing supply in the market, as the fall in house sales during the crisis led to an over-demand on the rental segment, according to the portal imobiliare.ro.

Students, who start university on October 1, are looking to rent in September, increasing even more the demand. During this period, there about 4,000 new apartments for rent in Romania’s biggest 5 cities per week, far below demand, reports local Mediafax.

In Bucharest, an unfurnished studio in the Basarabia area, in eastern Bucharest, can be rented for EUR 150 per month. The prices for two- or three-room apartments start from EUR 200. In Timisoara, in the student campus, a furnished studio can be rented for EUR 150, whereas in the central area, this costs about EUR 200 per month.
