Govt. approves deal between Romania and Moldova on energy

The Government approved on August 26 the deal between Romania and the Republic of Moldova for the interconnection of the two countries’ gas and electricity networks, reports local Economica.net.

The two parts agreed to prioritize work for the interconnection of the Iasi - Ungheni pipeline between Romania and the Republic of Moldova with the Onesti-Iasi pipeline, in Romania. The deadline to complete the work is the end of 2016. The two countries’ electricity grids will also be connected via two power lines.

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta made a visit in the Republic of Moldova at the end of May. He said that Romania was able to invest in the neighboring Republic of Moldova in energy interconnection projects, so that the neighbor country could have two supply sources for gas and electricity.
