The general strike of Romanian air flight controllers will cause losses for travel agencies

28 August 2015

Romanian air flight controllers’ general strike, which could start on September 1, would cause losses to the local tourism agencies, as they will need to reschedule or compensate tourists’ trips which are programmed at the beginning of September.

The announcement alone created problems for the tour operators, as customers were afraid to book trips during that period, according to the National Association of Travel Agencies in Romania (ANAT).

“We are in a very unpleasant situation for our customers. We are now facing the risk to ruin the plans of thousands of tourists, who booked their holiday earlier,” said Aurelian Marin, ANAT’s president.

Earlier this week, Romanian air flight controllers announced they would go on a general strike starting September 1, if their 14 claims were not solved. They said their problems involved “life and death” issues that were also related to the passengers’ safety.
