Bulgaria & Romania, lowest labor costs in the EU

Hourly labor costs in the European Union varied in 2014 between EUR 3.8 in Bulgaria, EUR 4.6 in Romania and as much as EUR 40.3 in Denmark.

The EU average amounted to EUR 24.6, whereas the euro area average reached EUR 29.2 an hour, according to EU’s statistical office.

However, Romania is leader among the countries that are not members of the eurozone, when it comes to the increase in hourly labour costs. Between 2013-2013, these costs went up by 6% in Romania, whereas they increased by 1.4% in the EU and 1.1% in the euro area.

In Romania, the highest labour costs are in services (EUR 5.1), industry (EUR 4.7) and constructions (EUR 3.4).
