Bucharest metro operator wants to introduce new metro train next week

20 June 2014

The Bucharest metro company Metrorex estimates that the first new metro train, out of the 16 it has purchased from Spanish CAF, will start running on the existing metro lines in Bucharest next week.

“We hope that next week the first train nicknamed ‘Dunarea’ will be put into operation. It’s currently in the final stage of receiving the notice from the Romanian Railway Authority,” Metrorex officials told local Ziarul Financiar.

“A second train could also be put into operation next week if we get the notice from the Railway Authority,” they added.

Metrorex wants all 16 new trains to be put into operation by the end of this year. The company has bought the trains with some EUR 97 million.
