Bucharest City Hall has more local councilors than London

13 April 2017

The Bucharest City Hall has more local councilors than London and Budapest and as many as Madrid, which manages a budget that is five times bigger, according to the National Council for Small and Medium-Sized Companies (CNIPMMR), reports local Profit.ro.

The Bucharest City Hall has 55 local councilors, similar to Madrid.

London, for example, is represented by the London mayor and the Assembly of London, which has 25 members, at a population of 7.4 million inhabitants and a budget estimated at GBP 11 billion for 2017-2018. In Budapest, decisions are adopted by the 33 members of the General Assembly.

The National Council for SMEs suggested that it’s necessary to cut public spending, to increase the quality of public services and periodically test the public employees. CNIPMMR has criticized the Bucharest City Hall’s decision to set up over 20 public utility companies that would hire thousands of people.

The organization showed in March that the Bucharest City Hall has 860 employees compared to just 200 people working for the Berlin City Hall.
