Book fair in Bucharest gets record attendance this year, with average spend per visitor at EUR 30

More than 100,000 people interested in buying discounted books visited the Gaudeamus book fair in Bucharest, which ran for five days last week.

The number of participants – 115,000 – was higher than last year, when 112,000 people came to the same event, making this year's attendance a record one.

The vast majority of those who came to the fair actually bought books – three quarters, according to the organizers. The average amount spent on books at the fair was of RON 146 – or some EUR 32.

The fair, which was organized on some 14,000 sqm at the Romexpo exhibition center in the Northern part of Bucharest, featured 600 book launch events and other events, and was home to 400 exhibition stands.

The focus of the fair this year was on Nordic literature, with nine popular Nordic authors invited at the event by the Embassies of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden to Bucharest. The event was organized under the slogan 'Cool Nordic Bucharest'.

The Gaudeamus book fair has been organized on a yearly basis for the last 20 years.
