Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air reached a market share of almost 31% in Romania this month, surpassing state – controlled airline Tarom, which has a 22% market share.

Wizz Air has made it to 20 million passengers, whom it has transported to and from Romania in the eight years since the company launched its local operations, reports local Agerpres. The airline transported 3.9 million passengers to and from Romania last year, up 20% compared to 2013.  

Low-cost airline Blue Air ranks third in Romania, with an 11.6% market share.

In Bucharest, Wizz Air has a 19.85% market share, surpassed by TAROM, with 27%.

The Hungarian airline offers flights to 15 countries from Romania.
