The majority of Romanians who buy organic products are women, and half of them have at least one child.

A lot of customers start to buy organic products after they become parents, according to the study carried out by local organic products retailer Republica BIO, cited by local Wall-street.ro.

Pregnant women and women over 45 are the customers which most often return to buy organic products. Clients most often buy food, followed by cosmetics and detergents.

Romania’s organic products market is still small and represents below 0.5% of the consumer goods market, but it grows at a rapid pace. Last year the sales of organic products amounted to about EUR 25-30 million. This year the market could exceed EUR 45 million, and by 2017, it could reach EUR 100 million, according to Republica BIO.

However, it would need about 10 years to converge with mature markets like Germany where it amounts to EUR 1 billion.
