Simona Halep keeps position in WTA ranking, four other Romanian players in top 100

Simona Halep, Irina-Camelia Begu, Monica Niculescu, Alexandra Dulgheru, and Andreea Mitu remain the five Romanians who are among the world’s top 100 women tennis players, according to the most recent WTA ranking.

With 5,151 points, Halep ranks third in the WTA ranking, after American Serena Williams (12,371 points), and Russian Maria Sharapova (6,386 points). The top ten is completed by Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova (4,995 points), Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki (4,905), Serbian Ana Ivanovic (3,706), Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova (3,465) and Karolina Pliskova (3,335), and Spanish Garbine Muguruza (3,315) and Carla Suarez Navarro (3,195).

Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu went down one place and now ranks 30th with 1,616 points. Monica Niculescu is at number 36 (up from 39) with 1,335 points, Alexandra Dulgheru ranks 49th (down from 47) with 1,036 points, and Andreea Mitu is at number 74 with 780 points.

In the doubles ranking, Monica Niculescu ranks 50th, Irina-Camelia Begu is at number 58, and Raluca Olaru is at number 63.

Simona Halep didn’t make it very far in this year’s Grand Slam tournaments. She was eliminated in the quarter finals of the Australian Openthe second round of the French Open at Roland Garros, and the first round of Wimbledon.
