Romanians in WTA ranking: Simona Halep keeps position, Irina Begu goes up six places

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep maintains her position in the WTA ranking. With 7,115 points, Halep is second in the ranking after American Serena Williams (10,156 points). Halep was eliminated in the first round of the Madrid Mutua Open last week.

Halep went back to number 2 in late-April this year after Maria Sharapova’s loss at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.

The top five is completed by Russian Maria Sharapova – 6,915 points, Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova – 6,670 points and Dane Caroline Wozniacki – 4,940 points.

With 1,432 points, Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu went up six places in the WTA ranking, to number 31. This is the best ranking of her career so far. Begu made it to the quarter finals of the Madrid Mutua Open last week.

Two other Romanian tennis players are in top 100. Monica Niculescu is at number 67 (down from 62), with 838 points, while Alexandra Dulgheru ranks 72nd (down from 71), with 792 points.

In the doubles rankings, Monica Niculescu is at number 49 (down from 47), Irina-Camelia Begu ranks 55th (up from 67), and Raluca Olaru is at number 57 (up from 59).
