Romania’s Finance Ministry will try to make it easier for individuals to buy state bonds.

Local investors bought only about 65% of the government bonds issued on the local stock market between June 8 and June 19 this year. This was the first bond issue for individuals in ten years.

The ministry plans to lower the bonds’ value to RON 100 (EUR 22.4), extend the maturities, and revise the way the interest rates are set, reports local Mediafax.

In the June session, the bonds were priced at RON 1,000 (EUR 225), they had a two-year maturity, and the investors could chose the bond’s interest rate, anywhere between 1.75% and 2.15% per year.

According to the issuance prospectus, if individuals bought less than 100% of the total titles, the yield would have been set automatically at 2.15%. Investors placed orders for 65,000 of the total 100,000 titles between June 8 and 19.
