Romanian politician: New low – cost privatization in the making?

28 August 2014

Catalin Predoiu, the former Justice Minister, now first vice-president of the opposition party the Democrat Liberal Party (PDL) has warned of a possible low price privatization of the strategic company Oil Terminal.

The politician says the tax authority ANAF plans to execute Oil Terminal for a debt the company says it paid off years ago, and then move on to privatizing the company as a way of saving it, but for a low price, by a Chinese company.

The company’s general manager Sorin Viorel Ciutureanu also said it has no debt to the state, which was also confirmed by the court, and said the ANAF is abusing its position. Oil Terminal is a state-owned company and is the largest sea operator specializing in exporting crude oil and other raw materials.
