Romania plans IT system to monitor all tourists

28 August 2017

The Romanian Tourism Ministry wants to set up the IT System for Tracking Tourism Activity in Romania (SIEATR), which will include databases about all tourists in Romania.

The Special Telecommunications Service (STS) will manage this system, according to the tourism draft law that has been launched into public debate, reports local News.ro.

Accommodation units will be obliged to install the IT system. This will allow authorities to assess the real revenues from tourism. It will also record all data on the touristic activity and tourists.

The authorities will provide the software to hotels and guesthouses for free. Tour operators will collect several information from the tourists, including the name, date of birth, place of birth, nationality, home address, identity data, personal identification number, date of arrival and date of departure, purpose of the journey.

Implementing this system will lead to better accuracy about the real number of tourists in Romania, said tourism minister Mircea-Titus Dobre.
