Romania has about 2,000 „zombie” companies

02 November 2015

Over 2,000 companies were closed last year just a few months after they had been launched. Most of them are small firms, as well as companies in constructions, hotels, bars, and restaurants.

Analysts consider them “zombie companies”, companies that didn’t have the necessary capital to survive. Some of them, however, included companies that were set up just to carry out some transactions.

Over 60% of the firms which suspended their activity after they had been launched were active in trade and services, according to the Trade Registry, reports local Profit.ro. Most of these companies were recorded in Bucharest (675) and in the Ilfov County (145), as well as in Bihor, Constanta or Timis.

The total number of companies registered in Romania last year amounted to over 101,000.
