Romania boils as temperatures hit 42ºC on the hottest day of the year

07 August 2012

The drought will continue over the next week in the agricultural regions of southern/eastern Romania, according to the National Meteorology Administration. The meteorologists are also predicting that today, August 7 will be the hottest day in the year.

The weather forecast for the period August 7 to 14, predicts very low or no precipitation across in the agricultural areas of the Eastern half of the country.

Because of the high temperatures, the water level in the Danube Delta has decreased to 3,700 cm/s, 600 cubic meters under the average for August.

The flows in Romania's rivers were generally maintained, except the rivers Crasna, Barcau, Crişuri, Arieş, the middle and lower courses of the Somes and Mures, which were down slightly.

Yesterday temperatures reached 40ºC in shade across the south of the country, while today temperatures could hit 42ºC.

At Balea Lac, a waterfall at 1,200 meters altitude has almost dried up due to the lack of rain for almost two months.
