08 April 2022

Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena Williams’ coach for a decade, will start working with Romania’s tennis star Simona Halep full time. The two made the announcement on social media.

“Excited for a new chapter. Let’s go to work Patrick Mouratoglou,” reads Simona Halep’s Twitter post.

In his turn, the French coach confirmed he is the new full-time coach of Halep.

“In the last 8 months, I realized how much I missed coaching. It is the passion of my life, and I still feel like I have so much to give,” he said on Twitter.

“Simona came to the Mouratoglou Academy before Indian Wells for a training block. I swung by at a few of her practices, watched her train. At the end of the week, she asked me if I was available to coach her. I have the highest respect for her but I was out of the question at the time. A few weeks later, I had a conversation with Serena, and the door opened for me, at least short term, to work with someone else,” he added.

Patrick Mouratoglou has been the coach of Serena Williams since June 2012. According to Wtatennis.com, with Mouratoglou, Williams won 10 majors.

Simona Halep is a two-time Grand Slam winner. Last September, she announced the ending of the six-year collaboration with coach Darren Cahill.
