Over 5,000 unionists to rally for Bucharest strike in early October

25 September 2014

Over 5,000 members of the National Trade Union Confederation Cartel Alfa will organize a street protest on October 7 in Victoriei Square in Romania’s capital, according to Bogdan Hossu, president of CNS Cartel Alfa. They ask for changes in the legislation for social dialogue.

“Protests will begin on September 29 through picketing, between 10:00 and 12:00, the Ministry of Labor's headquarters, and will continue every day, from Monday to Friday, for a period of three weeks, until October 17. In addition, on October 7, we will organize a major rally in Victoriei Square, between 11:00 and 13:00, to be attended by more than 5,000 union members,” said Hossu, cited by local Agerpres.

He added that four changes should be made to the Law for Social Dialogue no. 62/2011.

“It’s about changing the representativeness and the way the Collective Labor Agreement is applied; introduction of the Collective Labor Agreement on a national level, until the sectoral collective agreements are developed; the right for collective labor conflict and, least but not last, the minimum protection of trade union representatives, to allow the construction of social dialogue and the development of negotiable working relationships between employees, not turning them into slaves,” said Bogdan Hossu.
