Operation Blockade: Romanian police issue over 50,000 fines in one week

The Romanian Police have issued over 50,000 sanctions in one week, between August 13 and August 19, during one of the biggest public safety campaigns in Romania.

The operation, which is dubbed “Blockade” aims to prevent antisocial acts and to increase traffic safety, especially in the border regions. The campaign started on July 25 and ends on August 31, according to the Romanian Police.

About 4,000 policemen have been participating daily to this operation. They have conducted over 3,100 controls between August 13 and August 19, during which they found almost 1,700 offenses. They identified 114 wanted persons, 12 stolen vehicles, and 64 illegally held weapons.

The Police issued over 50,000 sanctions totaling some EUR 2.8 million. Over 40,000 fines were for traffic rules violations. Some 2,300 drivers had their licenses suspended following the traffic controls.
