Online platform that allows Romanian consumers to compare retail prices to be ready by end-2015

Romania’s Competition Council will launch an online platform that will allow consumers to compare retail prices by end-2015. The website, which will be called Monitorul Preturilor (The Prices Monitor), will display major retailers’ prices for various products.

“We want to create, preferably with the retailers' cooperation, an online platform that will be a tool for monitoring the prices, and will allow consumers to see where they can find the cheapest products they are interested in,” said Bogdan Chiritoiu, president of the Competition Council, cited by local Mediafax.

However, major retailers in Romania don’t seem eager to get involved in this project. Their representatives have claimed several times that it was difficult to monitor the prices, given that some prices change daily or even several times a day.

“Retailers find it difficult to provide their products’ prices,” said Chiritoiu. However, after several meetings and talks, they have agreed to this project.

Bogdan Chiritoiu wants the new platform to be up and running by the end of the year.
