Bucharest’s new mayor wants first aid tents installed in the city amid heat wave forecast

15 June 2016

Bucharest’s newly elected mayor Gabriela Firea would want the Bucharest Hospital Administration to start installing first aid tents in the city, as the meteorologists forecast a very hot weekend. She hasn't taken her office yet.

“The fact that there is no mayor installed in office yet because of political games can’t be used as an excuse by those responsible for taking measures for hot weather,” Firea said in a statement cited by local Agerpres.

She also asked Bucharest Ambulance Service volunteers to get ready to work in the first aid tents and help those who might be affected by the high temperatures.

Under the existing procedures, the Bucharest Hospital Administration installs 20 tents in the largest intersections in the capital, between June 1 and August 31. Each tent is equipped with drinking water dispensers, air conditioning, equipment for measuring blood pressure and blood sugar level, stethoscope, and first aid kit. The tents are to stay open between 10:00 and 18:00.

A heat wave is expected to hit southern and south-eastern Europe this weekend, including Romania, and the maximum temperatures will go way over the normal temperatures for this period. Read more about it here.
