National Opera of Bucharest to perform the best of classical ballet at festival

Under the motto "Dance with us too!", the ballet company of National Opera of Bucharest (ONB) is organizing  a Classic Dance Festival between November 11 and December 5. The festival will feature classic ballets such as Don Quixote, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty and the Corsair.

Along with the most talented dancers of the ONB, the public will also be able to see the festival's special guests: Vittorio Galloro and Arianne Gonzàvez Lafita. The event is dedicated to Ileana Iliescu, one of the greatest ballerinas that the Bucharest National Opera has ever had. She will be celebrated at the event.

Ileana Iliescu was born in 1937 in Sighisoara. She graduated the Bucharest High school Choreography in 1954, class of Anton Romanowski, Gelu Matei. In 1963 she received first prize at the Festival of canto, dancing, piano and composition in Italy. In 1964 she was awarded the title of merited artist. In the 60s and 70s Ileana Iliescu competed in many tournaments around the world, receiving widespread acclaim. Later she taught ballet in Turin and then returned to the country to lead the ballet company of National Opera of Bucharest.
