A photography taken by Romanian Maximilian Teodorescu showing the shape of the international space station with a large moon on the background has rapidly become a star across the Internet due to its resemblance to the Enterprise ship in the popular film Star Trek (in picture, below). The photo, that he first published on his blog, maximusphotography.wordpress.com, also appeared on international site such as spaceweather.com, petapixel.com, reddit.com, as well as on one of the blogs of American magazine Scientific American.

The International Space Station (ISS) (in opening picture) is a habitable artificial satellite in low Earth orbit. It follows the Salyut, Almaz, Skylab and Mir stations as the ninth space station to be inhabited. The ISS serves as a microgravity and space environment research laboratory in which crew members conduct experiments in biology, human biology, physics, astronomy, meteorology and other fields. Since the arrival of Expedition 1 on November 2, 2000, the station has been continuously occupied 12 years and 231 days, currently the longest continuous human presence in space. The ISS program is a joint project among five participating space agencies: NASA, the Russian Federal Space Agency, JAXA, ESA, and CSA, with ownership and use established by intergovernmental treaties and agreements.
