CEZ Group appoints Martin Zmelik head of Romanian operations

Martin Zmelik took over the management of Czech energy group CEZ in Romania, replacing Jan Veskrna, who completed his nine-year term.

"After nine years at the helm of CEZ portfolio in Romania, Mr. Jan Veskrna completes his term as Country Manager and President of CEZ Romania and CEZ Distributie Boards, focusing on other professional challenges," reads a statement of the company.

Martin Zmelik started his career in CEZ Group in January 2005, when he took on the task of creating and developing the international portfolio of CEZ Group in the position of Director of International Operations. He graduated from the Faculty of Management at the University of Economics in Prague, adding an MBA in the U.S. Business School, and later worked in various fields such as finance, IT and project management.

Martin Zmelik came to Romania in February 2010 to fill the position of Chief Operations Officer (COO) of CEZ Group in the country.

Also, Doina Vornicu was appointed the group’s COO in Romania. She was replaced by Ion Dobrescu in her previous position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Member of the Board in local unit CEZ Distributie.

CEZ entered the Romanian market in 2005 when it took over the power distribution company Electrica Oltenia SA.
