Bucharest Open Wheelchair Tennis brings athletes from 13 countries to Romania

Some 40 athletes from 13 countries will come to Romania’s capital this weekend for the first edition of Bucharest Open Wheelchair Tennis. With this event, Romania enters the international circuit of tournaments dedicated to wheelchair players. Some 160 such international competitions are being organized annually in 40 countries worldwide.

The event will take place between August 28 and August 30 at the National Tennis Center in Bucharest. The tennis players will compete in the ITF Futures Series, with total prizes of EUR 2,500. South African player Mariska Venter, Italian Luc Arca, Romanian Flavian Craciun will compete in this tournament.

Bucharest Open Wheelchair Tennis’ objective is to support the qualification of at least one Romanian to the Paralympics to take place at Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
