Italian weapons manufacturer Beretta will partner with the Plopeni Mechanical Plant in Romania's Prahova county to build two new types of guns, economy minister Niculae Bădălau announced on March 21.
According to him, the Romanian state and the Italian company will create a new company in which the Romanian side will own 80% of the shares, Economica.net reported.
The economy minister also said that two types of assault weapons, one of which is the ARX 160, would be produced in Plopeni. They will be delivered both for the domestic market and export.
“The Romanian Armed Forces tested the models in Târgu Mureş and made a report. [Those who tested them] said that this type of weapon, ARX 160, is the type with which the Romanian Army would like to equip itself,” Bădălau told local news channel B1 TV.
