May average net salary, up 14.5% y-o-y in Romania
The average net salary in Romania in May 2017 was 14.5% higher compared to May 2016, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).
It reached RON 2,363 (EUR 525), down RON 3 on April 2017.
The April to May differences comes from the various bonuses granted in April, including quarterly, performance or Eastern bonuses. Lower collection levels and hiring personnel with lower salaries, in certain industries, also added to the difference.
The highest average net salary was recorded in the IT services industry, at RON 5,842 (EUR 1,298). The lowest one was in the hotel and restaurants business, at RON 1,376 (EUR 305).
The most important drops in the average net salary in May compared to April were reported in the coal extraction industry (14.4%), in the insurance and pension funds sector, excepting the public social contributions system (12.4%), in the activities auxiliary to financial intermediations, insurances and pensions funds (12.1%). In the electricity, gas and heating distribution sector and in tobacco manufacturing, the average net salary dropped by 6 to 9%.
The most significant increases of the net average salary were reported in the metal ores extraction industry (15.5%), forestry and forests exploitation, including fishing (13.3%), and transports, plastic products manufacturing, furniture manufacturing, and oil products production (3% to 5.5%).
Compared to April 2017, the average net salary of public sector employees grew in May 2017 by 2.8% in education and 1% in the public administration. It went down by 1.1% in healthcare and social services.
