Vodafone's revenues in Romania continue decline despite client number increase

Telecom group Vodafone ended the 2014/2015 fiscal year with more clients in Romania, but its local revenues declined.

Vodafone Romania had 8.65 million customers at March 31, 2015, 47,416 more than in the previous quarter (December 31, 2014). Of this total, 8.05 million were mobile clients. The number of customers includes mobile services users, fixed voice and Internet users and m2m (machine to machine).

The company registered service revenues of EUR 656.6 million in the 2014/2015 fiscal year, down 6.7% year-on-year on an organic basis. Excluding the impact of mobile termination rates decrease, Vodafone Romania’s service revenues increased by 7.2%, as compared to the same period of last year, on an organic basis, according to the company.

Data usage rose by 75.6% in the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2015, when compared to the previous year. Vodafone Romania also sold 49% more smartphones than the year before.

In the fiscal fourth quarter, which coincides with the first trimester in Romania (January 1 to March 31, 2015), Vodafone Romania's revenues went down by 5.8%, to EUR 165 million.

Vodafone Romania is part of Vodafone Group Plc. Its main competitors on the local market are Orange and Deutsche Telekom.
