Tudor Giurgiu’s latest film to be released in Romanian theaters in February

09 January 2015

The latest feature film directed by Romanian Tudor Giurgiu, De Ce Eu? (Why me?) will be released in theaters across the country on February 27, according to an announcement by Libra Film, the movie’s producer.

The new movie is inspired by a real event that shook Romania in early 2000s, namely the suicide of prosecutor Cristian Panait.

The film follows the story of young prosecutor Panait, played by Romanian actor Emilian Oprea, who tries to crack a case against a senior colleague accused of corruption. He finds himself in a position where he has to choose between his career and pursuing the truth and, while looking further to solve the case, he enters a danger zone paved with unexpected and painful revelations.

This is Giurgiu’s third feature film as a director, after Legaturi Bolnavicioase (Love Sick) and Despre Oameni si Melci (Of Snails and Men).

Cristian Panait committed suicide in April 2002, at the age of 29, throwing himself from the fourth floor of his home in Bucharest.
