Traditional retail will increase in Romania by 5.1% this year, whereas in the EU it will grow by only 0.5-0.8%, according to a GfK study. Traditional retail will also rise by 4-5% in the Baltic countries.

The growth of online retail puts pressure on traditional retail formats across Europe.

Even if the e-commerce has gained more ground in Eastern Europe in the last years, the effects have had no major impact. The volumes traded online are still small, according to the study.

On the other hand, mature markets such as Germany recorded a decrease in the number of new shopping centers.
