Theater play brings Romanian novel character Moromete on London stage this weekend

Famous Romanian actors Marcel Iures and George Mihaita will bring the colorful world of the Moromete family, from Marin Preda’s novel Morometii, to London this weekend.

Păi... despre ce vorbim noi aici, domnule? / The World According to Moromete is a theatrical production that presents the life of a typical Romanian peasant family, full of mischievous humor. The play, written by Catalin Stefanescu and directed by Alexandru Dabija, presents Ilie Moromete, the head of the family, engaged in a hilarious exchange of ideas with his best friend Cocosila.

Marcel Iures plays Moromete, while George Mihaita is his best friend Cocosila. The performance will take place on June 20 at the Leicester Square Theatre in London.

The show is part of The Morometes 60: The Jubilee of a Masterpiece, a celebratory programme that revisits the interplaying worlds of Marin Preda and his memorable characters through film, theatre, photography, and talks, according to a statement of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in London.

Marcel Iures gained international fame after starring alongside George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Bruce Willis, Colin Farrell or Johnny Depp in productions such as The Peacemaker, Hart’s War or Pirates of the Caribbean.

Director of the Comedy Theatre in Bucharest, George Mihaita has an impressive acting career of over 40 years.
